Abstract

Project Name : Herd Bots, a small networked autonomous multi-vehicle platform

Project Description: Herd Bots are a project designed to develop a low cost multi-vehicle platform for research in reconfigurable and networked robotics research. Currently herdbots are designed to employ a Single Board Computer to handle high level control as well as a Digital Signals Processor to handle high speed communication with peripherals and motor control.

The platform is designed to be highly flexible and scalable and an effort is made to make devices robust enough to be used in a classroom setting, or outside of the laboratory environment.

The Current Version of the Herdbot includes the following features. Gumstix SBC -400 MHz ARM processor -Bluetooth communications

TMS320F28335 DSP

Faulhaber motors with integrated encoder

ABS enclosure to protect hardware.
