Undergraduate Research Description Undergraduates will work as a team to develop micro-controller based sensors and /or effector devices for integration on existing robotics platforms. Students will be introduced to a number of low power, low cost micro-controller solutions and will be expected to develop glue logic as well as specifications for interfacing with the final device.

Undergraduate researchers should accomplish the following goals:

  1. Document project on laboratory wiki
  2. Develop a working knowledge of how to interpret engineering data sheets.
  3. Develop/hone good C/C++ coding skills and learn to utilize modern collaboration, development, and revisioning tools.
  4. Understand common communication interfaces including serial UART, I2C and SPI.
  5. Interface with an analog device
  6. Calibrate an analog device and understand limitations/complications associated with analog devices
  7. Prototype a simple analog sensor
  8. Develop a communications specification
  9. Create a finished sensor on a student designed PCB
