Research Experience For Undergraduates
From HotDec
Back to Projects Page Main Page
Undergraduate Research Description Undergraduates will work as a team to develop micro-controller based sensors and /or effector devices for integration on existing robotics platforms. Students will be introduced to a number of low power, low cost micro-controller solutions and will be expected to develop glue logic as well as specifications for interfacing with the final device.
Undergraduate researchers should accomplish the following goals:
- Document project on laboratory wiki
- Develop a working knowledge of how to interpret engineering data sheets.
- Develop/hone good C/C++ coding skills and learn to utilize modern collaboration, development, and revisioning tools.
- Understand common communication interfaces including serial UART, I2C and SPI.
- Interface with an analog device
- Calibrate an analog device and understand limitations/complications associated with analog devices
- Prototype a simple analog sensor
- Develop a communications specification
- Create a finished sensor on a student designed PCB
